Job Description
A Medical Representative (MR), also known as a pharmaceutical sales representative, serves as the critical link between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. Their primary objective is to promote and sell prescription drugs, medical devices, and healthcare equipment to doctors, pharmacists, and hospital staff.
Rather than selling directly to the end consumer, medical representatives focus on educating medical experts on the clinical benefits, dosages, and safety profiles of their products to drive prescriptions and brand awareness.
Key Responsibilities
The daily duties of a medical representative span across scientific education, sales strategy, and client relations:
- Product Detailing: Presenting scientific data, clinical trials, and drug benefits clearly to physicians.
- Territory Management: Planning daily travel schedules to efficiently cover clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies in an assigned area.
- Relationship Building: Maintaining consistent, trust-based networks with key healthcare decision-makers.
- Sales Execution: Achieving monthly and quarterly sales targets set by the pharmaceutical company.
- Market Intelligence: Gathering feedback on competitor products, market trends, and prescription patterns.
- Event Coordination: Organizing medical seminars, workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) programs for doctors.
- Compliance Reporting: Submitting Daily Call Reports (DCR) and adhering strictly to pharmaceutical marketing ethics.
